Yet there is so much more to being a parent than paying the bills. While I feel like coercion is an apt characterization of men who enter parenthood unwillingly, I don't think that single mothers are a polite fiction. Regardless of whether they receive child support from an absentee coparent or supplemental income from the government, a single mother is often raising that child by herself. It's not fiction.
