WOW was soo freaking foul. In punk rock, that was the whole point. With the Cold War and movies like Mad Max and the Repo Man, much of punk rock was driven by a apocalyptic dystopian future. And the Plasmatics nailed it. I listened to the Misfits, the Dead Kenedy's, the Damned, the Buzzcocks...none of it was as shocking to me as the Plasmatics. And you're totally right, it was because it smashed gender essentialism. Generation Jones at it's best.
