Why is protection a gendered duty to begin with?

I don't think Rho Bashe deserved to be hit in the face with a brick. I think somebody should have helped her. However, let's not forget, protection involves risking your life. Given what little value society puts on men's lives, it comes as no surprise that many women feel entitled to us risking our lives for them.

I feel bad for Rho Bashe, but if she were a man, we wouldn't even be talking about it. Men die 3 times more often than women from homicide, yet where is the outrage?

People aren't really turning a blind eye toward violence against women. We have U.N. Women, and in the U.S. we have Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and the component of the Department of Justice called the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW). We have no such things for men.

Here is an older YouTube experiment that demonstrates how society reacts to violence against women vs violence against men.
