This is exactly why I don't like the term code smell. Code smell is supposed to refer to awkward code the signifies a deeper design issue (like a canary in a coal mine). Your use of it is just code you don't like (like, your code stinks) With all of the problems with junior developers and imposter syndrome, I think 'you code stinks' is not an effective expression for mentors to use.
