The two are related. Men who are effective, ambitious and assertive are often financially successful. When dating, women often look at some level of material success as a symptom of those behavioral traits that they are looking for.

Whether it’s just encouragement or vicarious ambition, constantly being pushed and expected to succeed IS exhausting for us. It’s particularly exhausting if we feel that is the ONLY thing that attracts you to us. We do want to feel that we have more value then just the sum of our achievements.

I’m not saying that women are wrong for trying to push men to be the best that they can be. I’m just saying that it would be nice if we felt that something else attracts you to us, for example #1 in his list would be nice :).
