But, that’s a huge annoyance to the application developer. There’s no chance to guess what needs to be updated, so the implementation may become overly verbose, updating every property, as demonstrated below.

That's why patches aren't supposed to take the entire model. It's supposed be either a JSON patch or a JSON merge patch.

You should do more research on a given paradigm before you start criticizing it. Especially when you characterize it as ancient.
