That's what I'm disagreeing with. I think using the boy-man trope not helpful. Yes, it sometimes applies to younger men who haven't grown up. This is usually just hope. Hope that they just haven't grown up yet and they will eventually mature through lives experiences and move past their failures.
At some point in anyone's life (man, woman...etc), your character is set and is unlikely to change. Those people who lack the character to be deemed decent are likely to stay that way, unless something traumatic happens to them. Men who have lived through youth and young adulthood can no longer use the excuse of immaturity for their behavior.
For example, if you have children and you abandon them, it's not because you're not a man. You a BAD man. You are a man with responsibilities that you walked away from. You're not a boy who doesn't have responsibilities. You are a man who does bad things and should be judged accordingly.
