No, I'm talking explicitly about lowering one's standards. I wouldn't suggest one should compromise their moral or values. However one can lower their expectations on things looks, income and social status.
The purpose of this guidance is not to deprive yourself of the right partner. Quite the opposite, it helps you find the right partner.
Let's say your an average looking guy making an average income and you find a beautiful woman and fall in love with her. If she is out of your league looks wise, the following may be also true:
1. She suffering another area: finances, emotional stability, intelligence.
2. She has low self esteem, which can manifest itself in many harmful ways (for you and her).
3. She's controlling and she wants a power imbalance.
As a guy, none of these are good for you. The same thing applies with the genders switched. Therefore, I think it's important to be self aware and know who you are and what kinds of healthy partners you can attract. The only way for young men and women to do that is to evaluate outcomes during dating, and if necessary lower your standards.
