It's not rational for people to work for something they can have for free. That is why unemployment benefits are supposed end at some point. The point of unemployment benefits is to provide some financial stability for those who encounter unemployment. It's not supposed to be a permanent primary source of income. The author of this article implies that as well. Instead of immediately going and getting another job, take a little extra time to improve your standing. That makes sense to me.

Additionally there is a moral point that conservatives make that resonate with me. (I'm liberal leaning) That point is that a capable and moral person should be compelled to be self supporting. It's one thing to take a little time to improve your standing (start your own business, or work on breaking into a new career). It's another thing to do nothing at all.
