It just goes to show that pop music may be popular, but sometimes it's not very influential. I was in my early 20's in the late 80's. If you listen to rock historians, you would think that there were loads of people listening to the Pixies, Janes Addiction and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Truth is, most people my age hadn't even heard of those bands. People listened to whatever was played on the radio, and those bands weren't getting airplay. George Michael, Poison, Bobby Brown and Paula Abdul were more likely to be what people listened to.
