I'm glad you feel that way. I guess my point is the harm of reinforcing the stereotype shouldn't be that it lets men off the hook. I don't see "letting men off the hook" as a benefit. Quite the opposite really, the stereotype may keeps them from participating in family life. I think raising children and having a home is a "get to" not a "have to".
