I get what your saying. However, it seems like a legitimate question and apparently, I'm not the only one wondering about it. I personally feel that expecting society to refrain from the use of a word in our vocabulary because of an in appropriate use of it seems extreme. If you are saying, use the word in legitimate cases (like Chief Executive Officer or Chief of Police), but don't use it as a nickname, that makes sense to me.
On another note, your response had a very condescending and rebuking tone to it ( ok let's cue up the tone policing trope ). For example, did you need to insinuate that I'm an asshole? Talk about offensive. Some how the use of the word chief is now obscene and the word asshole is appropriate. This is what makes having honest conversations about race so difficult. There's always some just waiting for the opportunity to put someone in their place instead of having a productive dialog.
