I don't think that women typically make less than their male counterparts. The research by Claudia Goldin, for which she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, found that much of the gender wage disparity can be attributed to differences in occupation and industry, as well as work hours, with a significant portion arising from breaks in employment or reduced work hours, often due to child-rearing responsibilities. I think this is important because the notion that women are getting paid less for the same work is just not true. I'm not saying that the wage gap doesn't exist, it's just being mischaracterized.
