I don't know why all of the posts on Medium seem to be forcing us into one camp or the other. Frankly, I agree that all of the social media postings mocking Amber will make it intimidating for many victims of abuse to come forward. They are horrible and it’s a demonstration of how cruel the social media mob can be.
However, I think that all of the posts that assume that Johnny was the primary abuse and Amber was the victim make it intimidating for men to report abuse. You don't know what went on either and your post is also very one sided. Let’s face it, we live in a Patriarchal society and men are very often older and richer than their partners. Using perceived power as a way of dismissing allegations of abuse against female abusers is a good way to make sure that men who suffer abuse are never heard. Johnny’s substance abuse problem alone puts him in a position of vulnerability.
