I can see why you might think that I am gatekeeping. However, this is not the case. If you look at the list of roles I posted, many of them were not entry level positions. They are in varying levels, from individual contributor to director to C-level executive. The only thing they have in common is that the are part of the engineering organization.

I’m not trying to gatekeep women out of any leadership positions, even outside of the engineering organization. I promise. I do not, however, think that hiring women in a tech company outside of the engineering organization is an honest achievement of gender diversity in Tech. It’s possible that my definition of ‘Tech’ is narrow, but that may be because software engineering is my life’s work. I do not believe that I am disrespecting women by welcoming them in that work. Why spotlight the Director of Sales instead of my boss, the Director of Engineering (the last company I worked for)? I’m advocating for more recognition in engineering, a department in many SaaS companies that do not get the recognition they deserve. When we achieve diversity, another department gets spotlighted? Why?

As far as me deciding who works in Tech, as a person who works in Tech, I am entitled to an opinion on that…regardless of my gender.
