I agree with everything here, except characterizing it as brutal. I guess that’s an attempt at preparing developers for the feeling they’re going to have when they get honest criticism for the first time. Overtime you get used to it and it often is the starting point of true collaboration. It’s only brutal, emotionally, like your first workout when you haven’t been to the gym.
