I agree that verbal abuse doesn't work, it will like cause whoever (wife/husband/children) to dig there heels in and resist. Like the saying goes, "you catch more bees with honey than vinegar". However, the whole dog training motif is kind of patronizing, no? (btw, after reading other articles by you, I know you don't mean it that way)
