15% was normal maybe a decade ago. 20% is expected now, and thats not a new number. As food and other restaurant costs increase from inflation, so does the amount that the server has to tip out to the establishment at the end of the night. The increase every decade or so reflects that. They don’t make enough money as it is.

Huh? Ok, I’m alright with 20% (it’s what I usually pay), but the percentage increase should NOT be due to inflation. First of all, the cost of the meal takes care of inflation. The tip has been increasing along with the cost of the meal and the amount the server has to tip out at the end of the night.
