How fat? It's relative, right? If you are prudent with what you eat and exercise you'll be less fat. Less fat can be considered success, especially if it's coupled with more fitness.
I'm an amateur cyclist and I'm overweight, but only marginally so. I ride with a couple of guys that are quite a bit rounder in shape than I am. They are also wicked fast. They can drop me on a bicycle whenever they care to. I can make a compelling argument that they are healthier than I am regardless of what they look like.
Everyone has their "fighting weight" and it looks different. I think each person decide for themselves what success looks like from a health perspective and celebrate that success.
