Hi, thanks for writing this. Just wanted to point out that this is a matter of opinion. Gates claimed that he was racially profiled and that police arrested him for trespassing on his own property, this was later found to be untrue. He was arrested for disorderly conduct. While the charges were dropped, the arresting officer (Sgt. Crowley) refused to admit any wrong doing. He felt that he comported himself appropriately.
I remember this because President Obama prematurely misjudged the situation. What Obama did next is what was so important to me at the time: He admitted his mistake. He invited both men to the White House to discuss what happened over beers (The Beer Summit). They both accepted and the two discussed the event . Obama characterized the event as a teachable moment. He said that he believed "what brings us together is stronger than what pulls us apart". I have to wonder how thing would be in our country to day if we had a president like Obama in the White House. I miss him.
