I agree with everything you said. Amber did unleash the beast of public opinion in the first place by releasing the op-ed. The response to this case by people in social media, however, has been hyperbolic. You nailed it, it's a backlash to the #MeToo movement, particularly the "Believe Women" slogan. I think that's the problem with political slogans. The slogan almost never fully expresses the intended meaning. It's since been cast as "Believe all women" or "Don't believe men, believe women".
