As a man, I hate this quote. It implies that men killing women is as common as women laughing at men. You admitted to laughing at men at the theatre, along with all the other women (and let's face it...some men) in the theatre (which is no big deal). My wife has laughed at me (I have laughed at her). Is it laughing? Or is it something else...like shaming, ridiculing or emotional abuse of some sort.
I don't know anyone personally that has committed murder, man or woman. This saying unfairly characterizes men as violent and dangerous.
The whole thing is a false equivalency, and I would ignore if I didn't see it used everyday as a way to differentiate men and women. Men are dangerous and should be treated with caution, women are funny.
