Absolutely. Once you're in a committed relationship, a couple should discuss how to share the costs of dating. Personally, I would be against rules like, "He can just pay for everything". But, it's really up to each couple. There are all sorts of factors that can be considered. Who makes more money? Who has more costs to bear. This may be broader than just the hidden costs of dating for women. It might be child support: custodial or non-custodial...it's the cost of raising children. It might be medical costs. Maybe, the caring for an ailing parent.

It doesn't have to be as exhausting as a spreadsheet, but I think it's important for couples to be able to discuss each other's needs, compassionately. It can be an exercise in how to share the costs of living as the relationship progresses.
