A high maintenance person is simply someone who demands alot of attention. To me, it's not the same as a person who has high standards.

High standards is a about the qualities that you want in your partner. Some of those qualities may not translate directly into gifts, attention or favors. People who have high standards are merely trying to find a partner they trust, admire and respect.

High maintenance is about how much you can get from your partner (gifts, attention or favors). High maintenance is about taking. You don't have to have a partner who is respectable, trust worthy or admirable. You just have to have a partner willing to spend his or her time and money on you without expecting anything in return. High maintenance is predatorial.
